A walk through the Kathputli slum in New Delhi
Kathputli colony is a slum located in central Delhi. It is situated between the metro and railways lines. Fatal accidents had happened to many children & adults because there is no wall or proper fencing near the railway lines to prevent the slum residents from going across. These are the most deprived people of the country, living in a dangerous environment, stricken down by poverty, afflicted with sickness and diseases. The community comprises basically of a migrant population from Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh & Gujrat. The population of the community is approximately 50,000 to 60,000.
Heaps of garbage, flies and mosquitoes buzzing all around is a common sight. A small central road passes through the colony, which has many criss-crossing pathways, dilapidated shacks and mud huts.
